Statement on sensitive or harmful material

Our aim

Leeds Trinity University Library aims to describe and present materials in a manner that is accurate, respectful, and responsive to the individuals and communities who create, use, and are represented in its collections.

We seek to create a safe space where we can all learn, free of bullying, discrimination and harassment of any kind.

Problematic language

As a Library, we hold a range of materials and collections and, as such, users are warned that there may be words and descriptions in Library Search and in some items, which may now be problematic.

You might see:

  • Language that reflects the period in which an item was written
  • Language that reflects the attitudes of the writer
  • Language used by people within a marginalised community who are reclaiming discriminatory language

What we are doing

We are engaged in ongoing efforts to revise and decolonise our practices and are committed to using our voice to challenge prejudice and discrimination where we see it and will work with our students, researchers, staff and peers to build a more inclusive Library.

If you encounter language in our catalogue records or elsewhere that you find offensive or harmful, or if you have questions about our work, we welcome your feedback:
