SCONUL Access

Joining the Library as a SCONUL Access member

Members of other universities may be able to use Leeds Trinity University Library through SCONUL Access.

SCONUL Access is a scheme which allows many university library users access to study spaces or books and journals at other libraries which belong to the scheme. Some library users may be able to borrow print books from other libraries too.

  • For full information about the scheme, and to check whether you are eligible to join Leeds Trinity University Library as a SCONUL Access member, please visit the SCONUL website.
  • Leeds Trinity University Library provides borrowing rights to SCONUL bands A, B and C.  Full-time undergraduate students applying through SCONUL (band R) will be entitled to reference use only of the Library's resources.
  • Once your application has been approved by your home institution, you should receive an email with further details on how to take part in the scheme and about which SCONUL band you belong to.
  • SCONUL Access library applicants need to show their acceptance email from their home institution, alongside all other required documentation as outlined in the external membership guide.

Please note:

  • Some institutions are not participating at this time - check the SCONUL website before you visit.
  • You will need to reapply for SCONUL library access if your approval has expired.
  • SCONUL Access members are generally granted membership for the duration of their course, if required beyond the original date users must reapply to extend their membership once it has expired.

The information on this page is for external members only. Leeds Trinity University students and staff - go to the Using other libraries page.

Borrowing for external users

All external members can borrow a total of 5 items on a two week loan period.

Your loans will be renewed automatically for nine months, unless they are reserved by another borrower.
After nine months, you will need to return the items. We will remind you two days before items are due back, and we will remind you when items are one day, one week, and two weeks overdue.

We don't charge fines but you will be liable to pay a £15 replacement charge if items are not returned after the due date. See our page on regulations and charges for more information.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to reserve items that are out on loan.  If you have any queries about your account please contact us.

Please note: due to licensing restrictions, Leeds Trinity University cannot provide access to online resources to external members.
