Leeds Trinity University recognises the attention that generative artificial intelligence (AI) has received in the media and particularly its impact within educational institutions. As a transformative university renowned for teaching excellence, we acknowledge the progressive and equitable benefits which can be leveraged from this technology.
However, there are some ethical concerns that some AI platforms – such as ChatGPT and DALL-E –can be exploited to engage in academic misconduct practices for the presentation of assessments, including plagiarism and commissioning. Unless you are explicitly informed otherwise by your module tutor, the use of AI could be deemed a breach of the university’s academic misconduct guidelines and would be dealt with accordingly under our formal misconduct procedures.
Furthermore, many of these platforms have been proven to generate falsified and/or outdated information, making them unreliable study tools.
We trust that all our students will continue to present assessments as their own work and not as a product of generative AI, unless otherwise instructed by your module tutor. Please read our Student Academic Misconduct Policy for any concerns that you or any fellow students could be breaching these guidelines by utilising AI tools in your work. Alternatively, please consult your module tutor, personal tutor or the Learning Hub for further guidance and support, including assistance with academic research, writing and referencing.
