EndNote

What is EndNote?

EndNote is a tool which you can use to create, store and manage your references. With EndNote you can:

  • Collect and store references in one place
  • Organise references into groups
  • Create a bibliography or reference list
  • Insert your references into your Word document as you write

EndNote desktop

This is the software version of EndNote which needs to be installed on your device. If you are using an LTU laptop, PC or Surface, the IT helpdesk can install EndNote for you.

As an LTU staff member or student, you can also download a free copy of EndNote software to use on a personal device via myLTU - go to the IT Support tile and select Get My Software.

Please uninstall any previous version(s) of EndNote before installing EndNote 21.

EndNote for iPad

This app is available from the App Store on iOS devices. There is currently no Android equivalent.

EndNote Online

This is the online version of EndNote which has limited functionality. The Library recommends using EndNote desktop if possible. If you wish to use EndNote Online, you can set up an account on their website.

EndNote and OneDrive

EndNote is not compatible with any cloud storage folders such as OneDrive or iCloud. You therefore need to save and back up your Endnote libraries elsewhere.

If you are using your own laptop.

We recommend frequently saving your endnote library. Save it to your laptop. Do not save it to OneDrive. You can also compress your library to make the file smaller. Alternatively, you can set up an Endnote Online account and synchronise your Endnote library.

If you are using a University Laptop or device.

When you use Endnote on university computers, the Endnote library file is blocked from syncing with OneDrive to prevent loss of data this way. You will need to back it up manually. You can compress your Endnote library and move it to backup storage manually, or you can set up an account with Endnote online and synchronise your Endnote library. How to compress your EndNote library
