A huge welcome to our new students - we hope you've had a great summer break and are feeling ready for a new adventure at LTU!

A University Library can feel like a daunting place, but always remember that this is your Library and we are here to help you every step of the way.

Did you know?

  • You can borrow library items for up to nine months, and these will renew automatically for you (unless they are reserved by another borrower)
  • There are lots of different study spaces for you to drop in and use at the Horsforth Campus and City Campus libraries, and you can also book a group study room
  • You have a dedicated Liaison Librarian who can help you search and find resources for your subject, and help you with referencing
  • You can use Library Search (the search box on the library website homepage) to find books in the Library, ebooks, online journal articles, videos and more
  • The Library offers a huge range of subject databases as well as subject guides that signpost the resources most useful for your subject
  • We have thousands of print and online resources to support your studies and research, but if you can't find what you need, you can request a resource

Get started guides

Our Get started guide for students pulls together the essential information you need to get started using the Library.

If you're a partner student, our Partnerships Librarian has created tailored partnerships guides for you, and this is the place to start your research.

Respect your Library

The Library serves many different people - students, staff, researchers, visitors, and members of the local community - who all have different needs. Please respect our library and our library staff, and help us to make our spaces pleasant and productive working spaces for everyone.

We can't wait to see you in the Library, and if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask a member of staff or contact us.

Welcome back!

As the leaves begin to change and the cozy weather starts to settle in, we thought we’d give you a hand in transitioning with the launch of our new Autumn Reading Challenge! It’s the perfect way to have that much needed holiday, from the comfort of your own couch.

Want the chance to win a £30 Uber Gift card? A brand new heated blanket? Or a hamper with some of your favourite snacks?

Our Autumn Reading Challenge will be running from 1st October until 15th December (both campuses) To break it down, here are some steps on how to enter:

  • Pick up a Reading Challenge bookmark from your nearest Library Helpdesk
  • Choose 1, 2 or 3 books from our Reading Around The World Collection, marked with the special globe logo below.
  • Write a short review for each book you complete
  • Collect your stamps and enter the prize draw. Each stamp = one entry

The more you read, the better your chances of winning. Whether you’re in the mood for a train ride comic or a gripping memoir, there’s a participation level that’s perfect for you.

Click here to browse the collection. We've also created an interactive map you can use to browse the collection by country.

Visit the Library Helpdesk from Wednesday 1st October to get started. Happy reading and good luck!

Looking for something new to read? Do you want to experience new countries and cultures (without the hassle of actually travelling)? Try out our Read Around The World collection featuring stories published in many countries across the globe. You can also use the interactive map we've created which lets you find books from different countries in the collection.

Better yet, reading books from the collection can give you a chance of winning prizes! Keep an eye out for our reading challenge running from 1st October - 15th December. More information will be posted soon.

This project has been led by our Library, Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Group (LIBDAG) to help diversify our collection and promote authors from outside the UK. Please visit our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion page to learn more about what we're doing to make your library more inclusive.

You may or may not know that you have a dedicated Librarian for your subject!

Your Librarian can help you find and use library resources and help you with things like referencing and literature reviews.

Most of you will meet your Librarian for an induction session during your first term. You can also book a 1:1 appointment with them, either in person or online via Teams.

Meet our three lovely Liaison Librarians, find out what subjects they support, and how to contact them:

Alternatively, you can browse our subject guides, select your subject, and then 'My Liaison Librarian' to find out who your Librarian is.

A Librarian is a most valuable treasure. To quote the wise words of Matt Haig, from The Midnight Library, “Librarians have knowledge. They guide you to the right books. The right worlds. They find the best places. Like soul-enhanced search engines.”

A warm welcome to our international students.

We know that coming to a new country can be both exciting and daunting, so we at the library want to help you feel at home. We have put together a reading list of books and websites to help you study in the UK and make the most of your time here.

We have study skills books targeted towards international students, as well as books to help with your wellbeing. We've also brought together some websites on Leeds and the surrounding area so that you can make the most of your leisure time.

Finally, we cannot forget that we are in the great county of Yorkshire. If you want to know more, we have collated some books written by famous Yorkshire authors, such as the Bronte's, and recommended some films set in Yorkshire.

We really hope you enjoy your time here.

We’ve created a new visual guide for the teaching equipment items held in Classroom Resources to make it easier for students (and staff) to explore what’s available.

It’s organised by curriculum subject and is a quick way to see what resources are on offer, ideal for planning lessons, finding inspiration or just browsing:
