Welcome (or welcome back!) to all our new and returning students and staff.

We hope you’ve had a great Summer break and are feeling ready for the new year!

Leeds City Campus Library

We’ve been busy over the Summer making preparations to open our brand new Library at Leeds City Campus in October and we can’t wait to welcome you and show you around our facilities there.  Keep an eye on our social media channels for sneak peeks and updates as the final preparation work continues over the next few weeks!

Essential Info

Here’s a recap of some other things you may or may not know about the Library services!

  • You can borrow any of our items for up to nine months, and these will renew automatically each week for you

  • We don’t charge any late fines or fees

  • We have lots of different study spaces for you to drop in and use, as well as bookable group study rooms and study carrels

  • We have subject-specialist liaison librarians who can help you search and find resources

  • We have thousands of online resources and books, including some brand-new ones for this year!

New Resources

  • We have invested in several new digital resources to support your studies this year, including:

    • BCIS CapX and the Construction Information Service (CIS), to support the new Construction & the Built Environment programmes

    • Community Care Inform: Children for Children, Young People & Families programmes

    • Intered for Teacher Education programmes.

These can be accessed via the Library’s A-Z Databases and the relevant My Subject pages.

Customer Services

We have also recently launched our Customer Service Standards here at the Library.  These help us to understand how we are doing and let you know what level of service you can expect when using the Library. You can read more about these on our website.

We can’t wait to see you again around here soon, in either of our libraries, and if you have any questions at all, please contact us.

The 24-Hour IT room in the Andrew Kean Learning Centre will be used as additional teaching space during the day from Monday 16th September until Friday 18th October.  This is in order to accommodate additional teaching on the Horsforth Campus, until the Leeds City Campus opens.  The 24-Hour IT room will therefore not be accessible/usable as a drop-in space between these dates during core hours.  Library facilities remain open as usual however as an alternative, and PCs are available in the Library for drop-in use at any point during our opening hours

The 24-Hour IT room will remain usable throughout this period during evenings and weekends (and while not in use for teaching during the day can also be accessed as normal).

The MFDs for printing & copying have also temporarily been removed from the 24-Hour IT room; alternative printing facilities can be found in the Library or in the Main Building.

Please don't forget to bring your ID card if you wish to visit!

Over the summer, the Horsforth Campus has adopted the new WoW (Wipe out Waste) Cup initiative, aiming to reduce waste and the use of single-use plastics.

This reusable cup for hot drinks can be used in the Costa café in the Andrew Kean Learning Centre as well as at other campus catering facilities.  You pay £6 for your cup when visiting the café the first time, and return it after use, just keeping your cup rubber band, which you take along each time you use the café.  You then get 30p discount on your hot drink, so as well as helping to reduce waste you can save yourself money! Sounds like a WoW win to us!
